British Values

Promoting Fundamental British Values.

In accordance with The Department for Education we aim to actively promote British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law.

Grangehurst has British Values at the heart of its ethos and curriculum. Our school values of Growth, Pride and Safety support our children in acquiring the essential qualities to enable them to leave the school as independent and responsible citizens. Our curriculum incorporates the interests of our children and supports them in becoming good local, national and global citizens of the future.

Our school reflects British values in all that we do.  We nurture our pupils on their journey through life so they grow in to caring, responsible and tolerant adults who make a positive difference to British society and to the wider world. We encourage them to be creative, unique, open-minded and independent individuals, respectful of themselves and others in our school, our local community and beyond. All curriculum areas provide a vehicle for furthering understanding of these concepts and, in particular, RE, THRIVE and Assemblies provide opportunities to deepen and develop understanding.

The Key Values are:

  • democracy

  • rule of law

  • individual liberty

  • mutual respect

  • tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
