This half term in English our focus text is 'I Want a Pet' by Lauren Child, the creator of the Charlie and Lola stories.

Children will get to know the story and the characters before writing their very own story about getting the perfect pet.

As well as story writing, the children will be given the opportunity to learn about riddles and poems and non-chronological reports. They willo then create and write their own report about pets and animals.

Children are now practising new spelling patterns using the Read, Write, Inc  scheme and continuing to develop and consolidate the Year 1 and Year 2 common exception words. Children receive daily spelling sessions for twenty minutes.

Children are continuing to take part in more formal guided reading sessions, where they are gaining a greater depth and understanding of the texts read. This will now be class based focussing around a text for two weeks and then completing follow-up tasks and reading tasks, with more emphasis on the vocabulary and style of questions to further develop their comprehension skills.

This half term the children will continue to develop their strategies to help with place value, ordering and comparing numbers up to 100, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

They will also develop strategies and reasoning to double and halve, find fractions of shapes and amounts, and to recognise and identify lines of symmetry.

Children will also be problem solving and and developing their reasoning skills at greater depth.
