To Try Our Very Best in All We Do

Welcome to our school website. Please take the time to explore all the things that happen in our wonderful school.

Governors

Welcome to the Governors section of the school website.

Every school has a governing board which represents the interests of the children, local community and wider public in the running of the school. School governors work with the staff and the Local Education Authority to help secure the best possible education for the children in the school.

The Grangehurst's governing board consists of 14 members and is made up of Parent Governors, Local Authority Governors, Staff Governors and Co-opted Governors. This ensures that the governing board has sufficient diversity of views and experience to be both a supportive and questioning friend.

Our Chair of Governors is Mrs Geraldine Hewison; if you wish to contact her please speak with the school office who can pass on the relevant information.  All members of the current governing body can be seen below.

There are two subcommittees: Curriculum and Standards and Resource Management. Each sub committee meets once per half term and feeds information into the Full Governing Body that meets once a term.

All governors are welcome and encouraged to participate in all or some of the committees.

The committees discuss and question areas of the school management such as staffing, finance, curriculum and premises.

There are three core functions of a governing body as reflected in OFSTED's inspection handbook:

  • Setting vision, ethos and strategic direction, engaging stakeholders, and ensuring statutory duties are met.
  • Holding heads to account for teaching, achievement, behaviour and safety; challenging and strengthening leadership; contributing to school evaluation.
  • Ensuring financial solvency and probity with effective management of financial resources, including the Pupil Premium, to raise standards.
