This half term in English our focus text is 'I Want a Pet' by Lauren Child, the creator of the Charlie and Lola stories.
Children will get to know the story and the characters before writing their very own story about getting the perfect pet.
As well as story writing, the children will be given the opportunity to learn about riddles and poems and non-chronological reports. They will then create and write their own report about pets and animals.
Children receive daily phonics sessions for twenty minutes. They will be consolidating their knowledge of sounds so they confidently apply them within their writing. We will also be continuing to develop and consolidate the Year 1 and Year 2 common exception words.
Please continue to practise spellings at home to develop their skills.
Children will take part in more formal guided reading sessions, where they are gaining a an understanding of the texts read. This will now be class based focussing around a text and then completing follow-up tasks and reading tasks, with more emphasis on the vocabulary and style of questions to further develop their comprehension skills.
This term the children will be working on developing their strategies to help with place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. They will also learn how to double and halve, write the words of numbers to 100. Children will be learning to order a series of numbers with and without missing numbers and their problem solving skills will be put to the test! They will also learn how to find fractions of amounts and of shape.
Children will be learning how to tell the time as well as learn the names and properties of 2D and 3D shapes.
