Welcome to our new school website

Reading books.

 

Children will soon begin to bring a reading book home. 

 

These books may look a little different to normal as they don't have words.

 

These books are designed to develop story language, vocabulary, expression in story telling and comprehension skills.

 

Encourage your child to create a story based on what is happening in the pictures. Can they make their story exciting by the way they change their voice?

Questions you could ask...

 

How is the character feeling? how do you know?

What might they be saying?

How would you feel if you were in the story?

Would you like to be in the story?

What other things can you see in the pictures? - think about people, places, objects.

Can you describe the things in the pictures (e.g a flower... a red flower... a big, red flower.... a big, red flower which smells nice.)
